AT&T: Service Restored to Most Local Customers

The company announces that most wireless customers in the Los Angeles area are now able to place calls using their cellphones after a recent outage.

AT&T has announced that most customers using its wireless service in the Los Angeles area should be able to make phone calls again.

A Saturday hit the region, including Hermosa Beach, due to problems with the company's cell towers.

But technicians now have replaced the malfunctioning piece of equipment that disconnected thousands of cellphones from voice service, said AT&T spokeswoman Meredith Red on Sunday morning.

"A handful of towers are still out, but they are coming back one by one," Red said.

AT&T customers in the area began reporting phone service failures at about 3 p.m. Saturday. Internet services from AT&T cellphones apparently were not affected by the glitch.
