Comments of the Week: Smoking Rules
Hermosa Beach Patch readers sound off on the city's smoking ban discussion.

The Hermosa Beach City Council decided 4-1 in a meeting Tuesday night to draft an ordinance around town—from the Strand to parks to Pier Plaza.
In response to the decision, here are some of the reader responses Patch received this week:
- "Yay!" — exclaimed Jerome Cleary.
- "Total extremest overkill. If they are concerned about health why don't they ban auto traffic or do they really think second hand smoke in the open air where it quickly dissipates is more dangerous than auto emissions? The dictatorship of the politically correct!" — wrote J Travers Devine.
- "Ditto! Why doesn't the City Council concentrate on running the city more efficiently. I don't even smoke but I'm sick of this 'nanny state' mentality. We have already given away enough of our freedom!" — replied Keith Hart.
- "I am so proud of our City Council for this. It is simply not fair for non-smokers to be exposed to second-hand smoke in public areas. Thank you!" — wrote Christine Wike.
