County Supes Approve Feasibility Study for Providing Fire Protection in Hermosa Beach
The city is looking to contract out its fire protection services and shut down its fire department.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors this week approved a feasibility study for providing fire protection and other related services to the city of Hermosa Beach.
The feasibility study, which is non-binding, will set preliminary parameters for service levels and costs. If Hermosa Beach contracts with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, LACFD will operate the only fire station in the city and provide fire protection as well as paramedic services.
The estimated cost for the service is $4.9 million for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

The Hermosa Beach Fire Department is currently suffering from staffing shortages from the recession and has yet to cover. Firefighters are regularly working 70-hour week, diminishing morale not to mention exhaustion, which could affect safety, a fire captain told the city council in April.
