Hermosa Beach Police Department Has Not Lost a Single Weapon Thanks to Annual Audit

The department tracks its weapons and matched them with officers that used them in an internal audit each year.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — No police officer in Hermosa Beach has ever lost or has his or her weapon stolen, according to the Daily Breeze.

This is thanks to a policy established by the Hermosa Beach Police Department years ago, the Daily Breeze reported. Each year, the department conducts an annual audit of its armory and tracks the serial numbers of weapons, matching them with the officers who used them.

The policy has the support of the current police chief, Sharon Papa, who joined the agency two years ago.

“I’m just thrilled that we have our annual audit, and we didn’t run into problems other agencies have,” She told the Daily Breeze.

Papa was a former assistant chief at the Los Angeles Police Department. Other agencies in the Southland weren't as lucky.
