Hermosa Beach Woman Turns 100

The centenarian remembered when the city wasn't as crowded and the beach wasn't as deep.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — A Hermosa Beach Woman turned 100 years old Wednesday.

According to the Easy Reader News, Elaine Palmer Wright first came to Hermosa Beach in 1950 where she and her husband bought a house on the Strand. Though she doesn't remember exactly how much it cost, she thinks it was around $25,000, which is around $249,633 in today's dollars.

She remembered when Hermosa Beach was as crowded and when the beach wasn't as deep and the waves would wash onto the home's front year.

Wright said she doesn't have any secrets for longevity, though she did remain active well into her 70s and led a relatively unstressful life.

“I had a good husband who didn’t work me too hard, and I had lots of help from the kids,” Wright told the Easy Reader News. “Maybe I’m more relaxed. I don’t worry as much as some people.”
