L.A. Lifeguards to Defend Title at National Lifeguard Championships in Hermosa Beach
Prior to 2014, L.A. County lifeguards were the reigning champs for 27 years.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — United States Lifesaving Association's National Lifeguard Championships returns to Hermosa Beach for the first time since 2013 and the Los Angeles County Lifeguards are looking to defend their title.
The competition starts Wednesday for junior lifeguards and the under-19 group. Professional lifeguards will compete Thursday through Saturday. Hosted by the Los Angeles County Surf Lifesaving Association, the four-day event starts at 8 a.m. each day.
“Open-water lifeguards from across the US will showcase their athleticism and professionalism during the many events held each day,” said David Cartlidge, President of the LACoSLSA. “Every day of the year, lifeguards ensure the safety of millions of visitors to the beaches throughout the U.S. This event demonstrates the fitness and endurance required daily by lifeguards to make rescues, while also utilizing their lifesaving training and experience.”
