Music, Book Sale in Beach Cities
From classic rock tribute bands to a 50-piece orchestra, this weekend is filled with the sounds of music. Patch lists upcoming events.

Even though sections of the 405 Freeway this weekend, there will be plenty to do in the Hermosa Beach area.

Shakespeare in the park

Where and when: Polliwog Park, 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach; Friday, 7 p.m.
Why go: Pack a picnic, grab a lawn chair and head over to Polliwog Park for Shakespeare-by-the Sea's . If you can’t get enough, the troupe enacts a live performance of the Bard's Much Ado About Nothing on Saturday. The summer production series next week.

Book sale
Where and when: Bard Street Book Store, 550 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Why go: This offers good reads for less—shoppers can find a paperback book for 25 cents or hardback novel for 50 cents. Proceeds benefit the Hermosa Beach Public Library.

Orchestra concert
Where and when: Redondo Beach Pier, 100 Fishermans Wharf, Redondo Beach; Saturday, 6 p.m.
Why go: Neighboring Redondo’s free summer music concert series the Air National Guard Band of the Southwest, a 50-piece orchestra—see if they all fit on the Pier.

Bon Jovi tunes
Where and when: Saint Rocke, 142 PCH, Hermosa Beach; Saturday, 9 p.m.
Why go: As close as you can get to the real thing, check out the Bon Jovi tribute band belt out classics like "Wanted Dead or Alive" and "Livin' on a Prayer." The night’s opening act is The Petty Breakers, a tribute to Tom Petty. Rock on.
