Police Blotter: SUV, Pedestrian Collide

Crosswalk collision
A man has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally driving his SUV into a pedestrian near the 400 block of Pier Avenue following a confrontation Sunday night, according to police.

Two people were crossing the street at about 9:15 p.m. when Redondo Beach resident Jared Polk, 25, drove his black Honda Element toward the crosswalk and "screeched to a stop," nearly hitting them, police said in a statement Tuesday.
One of the pedestrians confronted Polk, police said. That’s when Polk reversed his SUV, repositioned it, and allegedly drove directly at the two pedestrians, according to police.

The SUV hit one of the pedestrians while the other was able to jump out of the way, according to police, who said they later tracked down Polk and his vehicle in Redondo Beach.
The victim in the accident, who did not require hospital treatment, was able to formally identify Polk and his vehicle, police said.
Hermosa Beach police arrested Polk and took him to the jail for booking. Police asked that anyone who witnessed the collision contact Sgt. Raul Saldana at 310-318-0351 or rsaldana@hermosapolice.org.
Car burglaries
Several items were stolen at about 1:19 p.m. Friday from an unlocked vehiclein the 800 block of Bayview Drive, according to police reports. It was not reported what was stolen. Earlier that day, at about 6:46 a.m., three backpacks were taken from the trunk of a vehicle parked in the 1900 block of Prospect Avenue, according to police.
