Polls Open for Special Election

Janice Hahn and Craig Huey face off to fill the Congressional seat left vacant when longtime Democratic Rep. Jane Harman resigned. Polls close at 8 p.m.

Voting begins Tuesday at 7 a.m. in a special runoff election to fill the 36th Congressional District seat that became vacant when  to join a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn and local businessman Craig Huey  vying to represent the district, which includes Hermosa Beach, and serve an unexpired two-year term.

As of June, there are 342,492 active registered voters in the 36th Congressional District and 80,267 vote-by-mail voters, according to the county Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office.

Voters in Hermosa Beach on Tuesday can visit the following polling places:

  1. The Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club's youth center meeting hall at 2515 Valley Dr.;
  2. Easy Reader offices at 832 Hermosa Ave.;
  3. the Los Angeles County lifeguard station garage at 1200 the Strand;
  4. the front lobby of Playa Pacifica Apartments at 415 Herondo St.;
  5. Sunrise Assisted Living at 1837 PCH;
  6. the Hermosa Beach Community Center at 710 Pier Ave.
