Rival ballot items

The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday the Hermosa Beach Business License Tax Committee's proposed tax ordinance for the Nov. 8 municipal election ballot. The measure is to face a rival ordinance proposed by Hermosa Beach resident Jim Lissner—who has requested that his initiative be removed from the ballot because it's "flawed."

Surf festival

The 50th annual International Surf Festival on Friday night. The Los Angeles County Lifeguard Championships were part of the festival, and  the six-lifeguard rescue board relay.

California redistricting

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission on Friday for congressional and state legislative offices, which could change Hermosa Beach's voting districts.
