The new wine shop, Uncorked, opened for business on Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach on Saturday with hand-selected wines, craft beers, and specialty foods. "We did a wide variety for everybody," co-owner .

Swimming with blue whale

Kayaker Rick Coleman captured video footage of a off of King Harbor next door in Redondo Beach, and shared his experience with Patch. "When the whales pop up near your kayak, it can be heart-pounding," Coleman said.

Opposition to veto of cycling bill

The South Bay Bicycle Coalition this week has spoken out against , a law that would've required motorists to leave space or slow down for cyclists. Local cyclists have argued the measure is needed because "under current law, a bicyclist remains unprotected and in physical danger." CalTrans, the California Highway Patrol and the American Automobile Association have lobbied against the measure.
