Hermosa man suspected of killing girlfriend

David Brian Abbott of Hermosa Beach in the shooting death of Hermosa Beach resident Samantha Sproson. A court decision ordered Abbott to be jailed in lieu of $2 million bail. His next appearance in Torrance Superior Court is set for Feb. 15.

Police chief to leave

Hermosa Beach police that he is leaving the department this month for a new job. "I have very much enjoyed my time in Hermosa Beach," he said. "The City Manager, City Council and the community have been very supportive of all my efforts to enhance the Police Department."
