A beach musical
Where and when: 1935 Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, Redondo Beach; Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m.
Why go: Tap into local arts this weekend portraying the history of the South Bay surf scene from its roots in the early 1900s. Musical contributors include surf guitar legend Paul Johnson, Jeff Foskett (of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys), and award-winning local singer/songwriter John Brown.

Beach tennis tournament
Where and when: Hermosa Beach Pier, Hermosa Beach; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.
Why go: Have a day of tennis at with top teams advancing to the elimination rounds, consisting of quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals.

Why go: Be the first to witness the first annual . Tournament is for players ages 10 to 19.

Where and when: Tin Roof, 3500 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach; Saturday, 2 p.m.
Why go: Sponsored by the Neptunian Woman's Club, features plenty of food, wine and live music from the Manhattan Beach Jazz Quartet.
