Want to ‘Proudly Support Mt. Washington Elementary School?’

Every year, the Mount Washington Elementary School PTA organizes a “progressive dinner” that Patch columnist Kim Axelrod Ohanneson cleverly summed up in a March 2012 article as “Four lovely houses + four delicious courses + eight gracious hosts + two fantastic drivers + multiple helpers/organizers = one wonderful evening.”

Recently, the ever-innovative PTA launched what it refers to as a “Direct Appeal” campaign—an effort to help raise $106,000 in funds for the school by encouraging parents and other Mount Washingtonians to donate $275 in exchange for something that requires no nighttime tours or dinners with strangers.

Some readers might already have seen this “gift”—an eye-catching red, white and blue yard sign sporting these words: "I Proudly Support Mt. Washington Elementary School.”

The sign isn’t just popping up on the hill but also in neighboring Highland Park, Echo Park and Silver Lake, according to Mount Washington Elementary PTA Historian Nicole Thomas.

Parents and community members will be able to purchase the sign at the school’s annual Pancake Breakfast later this week on Saturday, Sept. 28, or by going to the PTA website and making a donation via PayPal.

And speaking of the Pancake Breakfast (don’t worry, it comes with sausages, fruit, juice and coffee, not to mention live music, face-painting and free tree giveaways), starting today, Monday, parents and others can purchase tickets for the event at a $1 discount. That is, tickets for adults can be purchased at the pre-sale price of $7 (instead of $8) and children’s tickets can be had for $4 (instead of $5). Click here to view the Pancake Breakfast flyer for further details.
