60 Units Of Permanent Supportive Housing Coming To Hollywood

An existing homeless shelter will be converted into a permanent supportive housing complex near U.S. State Route 101.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A new permanent supportive housing complex will soon be coming to Hollywood. Non-profit developer Path Ventures broke ground on a new site in July, which will provide 60 units for previously homeless residents with on-site social services.

The building will contain 49 studio units, 10 one bedrooms, and 1 two-bedroom manager's unit. According to Urbanize Los Angeles, the building will have a U-shaped footprint wrapping around a central courtyard, along with other amenities such as a rooftop deck and a community room.

The structure will be located at 5627 Fernwood Avenue, adjacent to U.S. State Route 101 near the intersection of Fountain Avenue and Wilton Place.

The rooftop deck will also include a BBQ, spacious counter, citrus trees, dining tables and chairs. An underground parking garage will also have room for 14 cars near the northwest corner of the site.

"PATH Villas Hollywood reenvisions the former PATH Hollywood interim housing facility as an affordable, supportive housing community," PATH wrote in a statement. "Comprised of studio and one-bedroom apartments, it will and feature vibrant community rooms, a rooftop deck, on-site case management, and dynamic community engagement activities curated by an on-site resident service coordinator. PATH has worked in Hollywood for over a decade and this redevelopment will reaffirm its commitment to engaging in and serving the Hollywood community."

Funding for the site comes from Measure HHH, a 2016 proposition which allowed city officials to issue $1.2 million in bonds to develop permanent supportive housing units. As of 2019, rent for a studio would start at $508 including utilities, while 1 bedroom units would start at $545 including utilities.

Rooms will be reserved for households who make 50% or less of the area median income. Los Angeles' current median family income is $80,000, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Path Ventures is also currently working on new housing communities in South Gate and Montclair-Gramercy.
