Man Killed By Alleged Drunken Driver On Santa Monica Blvd

A man in his 30s was struck and killed in East Hollywood early New Year's Eve.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man in his 30s was struck and killed Monday by a suspected drunken driver in the East Hollywood area of Los Angeles, police said.

The crash was reported at 2:24 a.m. at Santa Monica Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, the LAPD said.

According to police a 2017 Lexus RX350 driven by Nyamdorj Gankhuyag was headed north on Vermont Avenue when he struck the man. Gankhuyag was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was booked on a charge of vehicular manslaughter.

Gankhuyag was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to L.A. County jail records.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner's office said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation was being handled by LAPD's Central Traffic Division. Anyone with information about the fatal crash was asked to call Central Traffic Division at (213) 833-3713. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
