Royal Wedding: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Set The Date

The Royal Family announced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding date on Twitter.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will tie the knot on May 19 in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, the Royal Family announced on Twitter Friday.

“His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018,” read a tweet from the official Royal Family Twitter account. "Today's announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.”

Los Angeles-born Markle, who now works as an actress, grew up in the Hollywood area and attended Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse and Immaculate Heart High School. She currently stars as Rachel Zane in the USA drama "Suits."

Markle was raised Catholic and was previously wed in 2011, but that marriage ended in divorce. She’ll be baptized in the Church of England before the wedding and has said she will seek British citizenship.

While most British royal weddings are held on weekdays, Prince Harry’s will be held on a Saturday, The Associated Press reported.

The wedding also falls on the same date as one of the largest British sporting events of the year, the FA Cup final. The competing events may pose a distraction to wedding guests, according to the report, but are expected to be held at different times.

England's Football Association said in a statement that "May 19 promises to be a wonderful day with such a special royal occasion being followed by English football's showpiece event."
