HOLLYWOOD, CA — Movie fans, believe it or not, the brightest season of them all is just around the corner! Your trips to the theaters are about to get more exciting as the year's blockbusters make their way to the silver screen in the coming weeks.

This summer, prequels and sequels reign supreme in the cinematic landscape, including the long-awaited blockbusters “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “Deadpool and Wolverine,” “Twisters” and “Alien Romulus.”

Looking for a romantic comedy? Look no further than “Fly Me to the Moon.” Or if you’re seeking a family-friendly film, you can check out “Despicable Me 4.” Meanwhile, fans of Western films can also make plans to see “Horizon: An American Saga.” The list goes on.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (Release Date: May 24, 2024)

45 years after the original “Mad Max” movie took the cinematic world by storm, the latest installment in George Miller’s post-apocalyptic epic saga is making a big splash this summer with an origin story of Imperator Furiosa, a role Charlize Theron played with verve in 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Anya Taylor-Joy plays a young Furiosa, along with co-star Chris Hemsworth as the villainous Warlord Dementus.


“Hit Man” (Release Date: May 24, 2024)

Academia meets the underworld in Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man,” an action-crime comedy about a Pecksniffian professor (Glen Powell) who moonlights as an undercover cop posing as a hitman. But love gets in the way when he falls for a woman (Adria Arjona) stuck in an abusive marriage.


“The Garfield Movie” (Release Date: May 24, 2024)

In the animated comedy adventure, Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) is unexpectedly reunited with his long-lost dad, street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson). What ensues is a high-stakes exploit!


“The Watchers” (Release Date: June 7, 2024)

Ishana Shyamalan, M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, makes her feature directorial debut in “The Watchers,” a fantasy-horror thriller about a 28-year-old woman (Dakota Fanning) whose life is suddenly upended when she gets stranded in an old-growth forest located in western Ireland. Little does she know that terror is about to strike as mysterious creatures watch her in the night.


“Inside Out 2” (Release Date: Juen 14, 2024)

Imagine a teenager in the throes of puberty angst. That is the main plot of Kelsey Mann’s latest outing, a sequel to 2015's Oscar-winning “Inside Out.” The new film follows teen Riley (voiced by Kensington Tallman) as she encounters a new set of emotions in her teenage years.


“Kinds of Kindness” (Release Date: June 21, 2024)

On the heels of Emma Stone’s Best Actress win at this year’s Oscars, the Hollywood A-lister reunites with filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, following the duo’s previous collaboration in the box-office sensation “Poor Things.” Their latest stint, “Kinds of Kindness,” is a triptych fable presented with three loosely connected stories. The ensemble cast includes Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie and Hunter Schafer. Expect another Yorgos-mic original ride!


“The Bikeriders” (Release Date: June 21, 2024)

Jeff Nichols’ much-awaited crime drama finally makes its cinematic debut after a six-month delay brought upon by the recent SAG-AFTRA strike. The “Loving” director’s latest effort, inspired by the real 1967 photobook by Danny Lyon, centers on the trials and tribulations of a fictional motorcycle club called The Chicago Outlaws.


“Thelma” (Release Date: June 21, 2024)

Hell, hath no fury like a 93-year-old woman — scammed! Enter our heroine Thelma (June Squibb), a nonagenarian who becomes a victim of a phone scam by a fraudster pretending to be her grandson. In a fit of rage, she decides to reclaim what was stolen from her. Believe it or not, this is the first leading film role of the 94-year-old Squibb in her seven-decade-long career. And what a feat it is!


“A Quiet Place: Day One” (Release Date: June 28, 2024)

Writer-director Michael Sarnoski takes over the reins from John Krasinski in the latest installment of the “A Quiet Place” movie franchise. Like its predecessor, 2020’s “A Quiet Place Part II,” the new film takes place one year after the world devolved into silence.


“Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 1” (Release Date: June 28, 2024)

Kevin Costner’s lifelong four-part passioned project, “Horizon: American Saga,” makes its cinematic debut this summer with the theatrical release of “Chapter 1.” The Western epic spans a period of 15 years set in the Old West during Antebellum and post-Civil War expansion. “Chapter 2” will hit theaters Aug. 16.


“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” (Release Date: July 3, 2024)

40 years after the original movie graced the silver screen, the fourth installment in the “Beverly Hills Cop” movie franchise arrives this summer with Eddie Murphy reprising his iconic role of Detroit PD detective Axel Foley. This time around, our hero returns to zip 90210, as his daughter’s life is threatened.


“Despicable Me 4” (Release Date: July 3, 2024)

The “Despicable Me” movie series returns this summer with the fourth installment. This time around, Gru and his family are back together to welcome the arrival of baby Gru Jr. Meanwhile, the entire gang crosses paths with the villainous Maxine Lemal.


“MaXXXine” (Release Date: July 5, 2024)

Mia Gott stars as the eponymous character, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx. Set in 1980s Hollywood, the film follows the starlet as she is about to get the biggest acting break of her career. But her quest for stardom gets derailed by a mysterious stalker.


“Sing Sing” (Release Date: July 12, 2024)

The film follows a group of prison inmates as they stage theatrical shows at the maximum-security Sing Sing Correctional Facility in New York. The movie, which at times blurs the line between reality and fiction, stars Colma Domingo and Paul Raci, alongside real-life former prisoners who have benefitted from the rehab program.


“Fly Me to the Moon” (Release Date: July 12, 2024)

Television legend Greg Berlanti, known for his amazing work on popular TV shows such as “Dawson’s Creek” and “You,” has a new film out this summer. “Fly Me to the Moon,” a romantic comedy set during the 1960s Space Race, follows the blossoming romance between a NASA director (Channing Tatum) in charge of the Apollo 11 launch, and a marketing specialist (Scarlett Johansson) hired to improve the space agency’s public image.


“Twisters” (Release Date: July 19, 2024)

Remember the 1996 movie “Twister”? The disaster classic has a standalone sequel, “Twisters,” in which Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos play a new generation of storm chasers. Expect to be dazzled as twin tornadoes plow through several suburbs of Oklahoma. Can our heroes tame Mother Nature?


“Deadpool and Wolverine” (Release Date: July 26, 2024)

The Merc with a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) is finally joining the MCU. And guess who Deadpool is bringing along for the adventure ride. Yes, it is none other than Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the mutant with the Adamantium claws. Together, the duo set out on a mission to save the world.


“Borderlands” (Release Date: Aug. 9, 2024)

Eli Roth’s latest effort, an action-adventure based on the best-selling video game series, features an ensemble cast led by Cate Blanchett. The film adaptation centers on Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, as she returns to her home planet along with a ragtag crew of misfits. Their mission? To find and save a missing girl who may hold a key to the most unimaginable power in the universe.


“Trap” (Release Date: Aug. 9, 2024)

Josh Hartnett, Alison Pill, Hayley Mills; directed by M. Night Shyamalan

What if a big pop concert had been staged only to trap and catch a notorious serial killer? That is the premise of “Trap,” in which Josh Hartnett plays a psychopath raining down terror with his killing spree. The high-concept plot is intriguing, to say the least.


“Alien Romulus” (Release Date: Aug. 16, 2024)

“Alien” fans, your wait is over! The latest chapter in the beloved sci-fi movie franchise premieres this summer with another twist of terror in the intergalactic abyss. “Romulus” follows a new generation of young space colonizers who come face to face with a Xenomorph. Can they survive the alien’s wrath?
