What To Watch This Weekend: 'Incredibles 2,' 'Tag' And More

Pixar's favorite superhero family returns to theaters in "Incredibles 2." Plus, a group of lifelong friends play an epic game of tag.

After nearly 14 years, the wait is over for the fans of 2004's "The Incredibles." The film's sequel, which is headed to theaters this weekend, stars Holly Hunter and Craig T. Nelson, who reprise their roles as superheroes Elastigirl and Mr. Incredible.

Those seeking a healthy dose of comic relief can check out "Tag," in which Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms and Jon Hamm lead a pack of close friends playing a game of tag for life.

Meanwhile, Trevor Jackson plays a successful businessman flying under the law enforcement's radar in "SuperFly."

โ€œIncredibles 2โ€ โ€” Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, directed by Brad Bird

The incredible Parrsโ€” dad Bob (Craig T. Nelson), mom Helen (Holly Hunter), 14-year-old Violet (Sarah Vowell), 10-year-old Dash (Huckleberry Milner) and baby Jack-Jack (Eli Fucile) โ€” are back!

This time around, the family of superheroes, who were forced into retirement due to citizensโ€™ complaints, gets back into action thanks to a billionaire (Bob Odenkirk) tasked with restoring the Parrs' public image.

Picking up after the events of the original, the show mainly centers on Elastigirl, Helenโ€™s alter-ego, while Mr. Incredible, Bobโ€™s alter-ego, stays home to take care of the children. The villain of the story? โ€” this one is a clever idea! It is Screenslaver, whose mission is to control the citizensโ€™ minds through screens.

See it. Like the original, this sequel lives up to its title. Fans of 2004โ€™s โ€œThe Incrediblesโ€ will adore this pastiche of delight and playfulness along with a sleek retro-1960s style, Holly Hunterโ€™s commanding voice performance, and Birdโ€™s skillful direction.

โ€œTagโ€โ€” Ed Helms, Isla Fisher, directed by Jeff Tomsic

In โ€œTag,โ€ Ed Helms, Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson and Hannibal Buress star as long-time pals who get together once a year to take each other down with an epic game of tag.

This time around is very special, as Jerry (Renner) is the group's secret target to tag. Why him? Not only is he getting married this year, but he is also the only one whoโ€™s never been tagged by his mates over the years.

While Jerry knows better than to invite the rowdy crew to his wedding, they have other plans. Hoagie (Helms), Callahan (Hamm), Randy (Johnson) and Sable (Buress) are set to crash the party โ€” and so the game begins.

See it. These kids at heart will bring lots of laughter and joy. And did you know this movie is based on real-life events? Watch out for the โ€œrealโ€ guys in the end.

โ€œSuperFlyโ€ โ€” Trevor Jackson, Jason Mitchell, directed by Director X

In Director Xโ€™s remake of the 1972 crime drama โ€œSuper Fly,โ€ Trevor Jackson stars as a successful young drug dealer who enjoys his affluent lifestyle with beautiful women, lavish parties and lots of luxury.

Youngblood Priestโ€™s (Jackson) business strategy is to stay cool, groovy and low-key โ€” so low-key that almost no one even knows his business exists. However, once two crooked cops discover his secret enterprise, the drug kingpin must escape their peering eyes as he attempts to pull off one last big score.

See it. While the screenplay lacks deep character development, the film is entertaining, especially in its second half.
