Movies Out This Weekend
โPeppermintโ โ Jennifer Garner, Jeff Hephner, directed by Pierre Morel
Hell hath no fury like a mother turned vigilante in Pierre Morelโs โPeppermint,โ an action thriller that blurs the lines between justice and revenge.
In the movie, Jennifer Garner plays Riley North, a young mother whose hopes and dreams are suddenly shattered when she and her family are viciously gunned down at a holiday carnival. In the aftermath of the attack, Riley awakens from a coma and is faced with the tragic loss of her husband Chris (Jeff Hephner) and 10-year-old daughter Carly (Cailey Fleming).
A trial takes place, but despite her eyewitness testimony, the killers are set free. What transpires next is a life-altering course for Riley: taking the law into her own hands to serve justice and revenge after five years of plotting and planning.
See it. Garner delivers a Sydney-Bristow-esque performance reminiscent of her famed โAliasโ days, but with more awe-inspiring visceral depth.

โThe Nunโ โ Demiรกn Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, directed by Corin Hardy
The latest chapter from James Wanโs โConjuringโ universe delves into the origins of a demon in disguise as a nun. The character, Nun Valak, bedeviled ghost hunter Lorraine Warrenโs visions in โThe Conjuring 2.โ
Set in 1952, the spinoff stars Demiรกn Bichir as Father Burke, a cleric tasked by the Vatican to investigate the suicide of a nun at a cloistered Romanian abbey. Joining him on his quest is Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), a young novitiate with psychic abilities.
Upon arrival, the duo discover that the whole village is fear-stricken, claiming that the abbey is a citadel of malevolent forces. Are Father Burke and Sister Irene truly prepared for their epic battle against the demon in the habit?
See it. Though it lacks the cleverly executed jolts, shocks and scares of โThe Conjuringโ flicks, โThe Nunโ has enough chills and terror for the genreโs hardcore fans to appreciate.
Watch the trailer:
โGod Bless The Broken Roadโ โ Lindsay Pulsipher, Jordin Sparks, directed by Harold Cronk
Harold Cronkโs latest film, which is inspired by a country song popularized by Rascal Flatts, is a drama about a war widow experiencing a crisis of faith.
Amber (Lindsay Pulsipher) is a military wife who loses her faith in God after her husband is killed in Afghanistan. Since the death, she and her young daughter Bree (Makenzie Moss) struggle to stay afloat financially, forcing Amber to wait tables at a local diner.
However, her life is about to change when she meets NASCAR driver Cody Jackson (Andrew W. Walker). Will she find her way back to God?
Skip it. The narrative is filled with too many unwelcomed clichรฉs and questionable threads, notwithstanding Pulsipherโs compelling performance and Cronkโs deft direction.
