What's New On Netflix December 2024: 'Maria,' 'Squid Game,' The NFL

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Celebrate the Yuletide Season in Netflixland with a bevy of highly anticipated new releases. So, get ready to cozy up on the couch and enjoy the streaming platform’s latest offerings— ranging from Christmas specials to NFL special games, and from popular movie gems to festival darlings that are already generating some 2025 Oscar buzz.

December Specials

Ho! Ho! Ho! This December, Netflix welcomes the arrival of a slew of holiday specials, including "A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter," an animated movie called "That Christmas," a "biblical coming-of-age epic" titled "Mary," and the holiday edition of "The Great British Baking Show."

Other Offerings

A Maria Callas biopic, “Maria,” makes its streaming debut on Dec. 11, starring Angelina Jolie as the ill-fated opera singer. The movie, which was released in select theaters on Wednesday, chronicles the famed soprano’s final days in 1970s Paris as she struggles to stage a comeback to her illustrious career. Jolie, who received an 8-minute standing ovation at this year’s Venice Film Festival, is worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Football fans, you’re in for a special treat! The streaming platform is set to air its first-ever live NFL games on Christmas Day. Be sure to catch Kansas City Chiefs as they face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a halftime performance by Beyonce. Later that day, the Baltimore Ravens will also go up against the Houston Texans.

Other highlights this month include "Squid Game" Season 2, "No Good Deed," "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma," "Churchill at War" and Jamie Foxx’s "What Had Happened Was…"

Popular movie favorites are also making their way to the streaming platform this month, including "Zero Dark Thirty," "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Burlesque" and "Midway."
