  1. If you’ve walked along the Huntington Harbour coastline, you’ve probably seen unusually large numbers of jellyfish. They are moon jellies and don’t sting. “While they are a common jellyfish, they are not something typically seen in this large of quantities in the harbor,” a naturalist explained. The jellies were around Friday, but there’s no telling how much longer they’ll be so close to shore. (PT)
  2. The Huntington Beach Bad Boy held an estate sale. After putting his house on the market last month, Tito Ortiz invited buyers on Friday and Saturday for a few hours to buy selected personal belongings. Examples of items for sale included “an ornately carved four-post bed, a long dining table that seats eight, high-end kitchen appliances, and a mirror-surfaced dresser. Accessories include a Buddha statue and arcade games.” If you missed the opportunity to check out the goodies, there’ll be another sale in the middle of February. (The OCR)
  3. On Friday morning, a group of students from St. Bonaventure Catholic School met up with HBPD officers and other volunteers at Carr Park. To prepare for the annual youth fishing event, the Department of Fish and Wildlife had released 250 rainbow trout. “For the various involved groups, the motivations vary. Police want to conduct outreach, gun and angler clubs want to pass skills to the next generations, and educators want their students to get some fresh air and learn about wildlife.” (Spectrum News 1)
  4. Allyson Allen tells stories with quilts. A temporary gallery of her work went up in Laguna Beach’s Wells Fargo. By Wednesday, it was gone because “customers objected to its political messages.” However, “on Jan. 11, the City Council proclaimed February 2022 as Ethnic Diversity and Black History Month to celebrate ethnic diversity within the community.” (Laguna Beach Independent)
  5. The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) wants your input. We learned Friday that the feedback request is for the “possibility of continuing the Youth Ride Free pass program.” This promotion, which began in the fall, is scheduled to expire at the end of February. You can fill out an online survey or call (714) 636-7433 to make your voice heard. (OC Breeze)
