- Huntington Beach City Council Member Kim Carr, who recently finished her time as mayor, announced Tuesday that she’s running for State Senate. She would be a candidate for the 36th district. “As your State Senator, I will work to protect local control, keep our communities safe, tackle our climate crisis, safeguard our housing and ensure we create a California we can all call home,” she said. Her sizable list of endorsements include HB Mayor Barbara Delgleize, OC Supervisor Katrina Foley, and Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. (The Liberal OC)
- Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis is coming to the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on Friday. Marsalis is an international influencer for music education. “In 2001 he was appointed Messenger of Peace by Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and he has also been designated cultural ambassador to the United States of America by the U.S. State Department through their CultureConnect program.” (OC Breeze)
- We learned Tuesday that Newport Beach had a residential burglary spree over the weekend. Friday’s burglaries took place in the Crystal Cove and Pelican Crest neighborhoods. A burglary was attempted Saturday in Bayview Heights. “The suspects were wearing dark hoodies, face masks, carried dark backpacks, latex gloves, and carried flashlights.” (Patch)
- Have you heard the story of the alleged OC drug dealer humming while in court? On Tuesday, we learned why. The defendant’s public defender told “his client to hum in open court in an attempt to avoid hearing the controlled substance advisement being given by a prosecutor.” The advisement is a warning that if someone dies because of the defendant’s drug-related activities, he could be charged with murder. Even though the defendant had entered a guilty plea, the judge let him withdraw it and continue to trial, where the defendant will have another opportunity to be given the advisement. (New Santa Ana)
- An arbitrator decided that the District Attorney’s Office has to reinstate a fired investigator who “accused District Attorney Todd Spitzer of ‘pay-to-play’ schemes.” We learned Monday that the arbitrator declared the termination as being “not for reasonable cause.” Therefore, the investigator “will be paid more than a year in back pay. Transparent California, a public pay database, lists his salary and benefits in 2020 at $329,489.” (The OCR/paywall)
