- Wednesday evening, around 6:15 p.m., there was a small fire in the parking structure in the 200 block of Main Street. The HBFD responded and blocked Olive Avenue. A witness believes that a dumpster caught on fire. There was no structure damage or reported injuries. (HB News)
- As of Thursday, HB is fourth among the top-five cities that saw the biggest jumps in rent for one-bedroom apartments, with an increase of 44.9%. When it comes to two-bedroom units, we’re number two with a 55.2% jump. (Fatherly)
- Did you see the excitement at the pier on Thursday? We already knew that 911 Lone Star was filming in the area. A couple of weeks ago, they spent three days in Long Beach filming a scene. Now, they are here “filming an 80s flashback scene (complete with vintage surfboards and ambulance) down on the south side of the pier.” (Susan Marie Taylor)
- Students at the HB Union High School District are finishing their district-wide food drive strong! With Friday being the last day to donate, the schools "are grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community and local families in need." (@HBUHSD)
- Planning for the U.S. Open of Surfing is in full gear. Insiders say that this summer’s event – scheduled to run from July 30 to August 7 – will be “the more-typical mega festival the event is known for, after last year’s scaled-down version on the south side of the famed Huntington Beach pier.” Vans has already signed on as a sponsor. There will be BMX riding. And, “this year’s event will also include a Duct Tape Invitational and Festival, featuring a field of male and female longboard surfers.” (The OCR/paywall)
