- Tito Ortiz is known as the “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” and a former UFC light heavyweight champion. In 2020, he was a member of the HB City Council and Mayor Pro Tem. He resigned on June 1, 2021. We learned Monday that Ortiz believes the UFC doesn’t “want fans to remember him.” “Ortiz said that when he shared his feelings publicly in the past about the UFC, they 'tried to erase' his legacy.” (Heavy)
- Poseidon Water announced Monday that the California Coastal Commission deemed its application for a Coastal Development Permit for the HB desalination plant as complete. The Commission will consider the application in its March hearing. This is the last step in the permitting process. “We have a lengthy 15-year history of working cooperatively with the Coastal Commission on the permitting of the proposed Facility,” a representative for the company stated. - Last Wednesday, LawnStarter compiled a list of cheese-loving cities. It compared “over 180 of the biggest U.S. cities based on cheese access, quality, and affordability, as well as local events.” HB came in 113th. Although we had a high-quality ranking, we didn’t do so well in the community portion of the rankings. In contrast, “Modesto was at No. 2, followed by San Francisco in third place and Los Angeles in eighth.” (LawnStarter)
- The Pacific City Gallery, which is right across the street from the HB Pier, will host “a special collection of TAVi art by Arellano Gustavo” starting this Wednesday. Insiders refer to Gustavo as the “Modern Picasso.” The artist himself will be at the Gallery from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Attendees benefit from “an airdrop of two additional TAVi NFT collection pieces, as well as other virtual perks.” (GoPacificCity)
- Prime Healthcare is looking for a CEO who can oversee the Hospital Medical Center in Garden Grove and the Hunting Beach Hospital. A candidate should have five years of healthcare administration experience. They also need a “Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Business or related fields.” (LinkedIn)
Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
