Mar Vista High School welcomed its alumni back Friday and crowned a homecoming king and queen.
Festivities started about an hour before the Mariners first home game of the season with a parade around Myron L. Smull stadium that included homecoming court in Corvettes and groups of students from each grade level in the back of trucks.
A Imperial Beach Fire Department engine carried the school cheer team around the track.
Emerson Gomez and Adrianna Hinojosa were named homecoming king and queen to the sound of fireworks at halftime.
The football team suffered a 35-21 loss to Serra High School, the team's second loss of the season. The Mariners travel to Otay Ranch Friday to play the 0-1 Mustangs.
