5 in Custody After Chase on 15th Street

2 of the 5 ran when approached by a sheriff's deputy after being found in a car that was reported stolen in Chula Vista.

Suspects seen in a car reported stolen in Chula Vista were apprehended after a brief chase in Imperial Beach Tuesday morning, said Sgt. Joel Stranger with the sheriff's Imperial Beach substation.

Around 10:05 a.m., a deputy saw five people, four of whom are minors, in a 2010 Honda sedan parked near the corner of 15th Street and Hemlock Avenue.

When approached by the deputy, two immediately ran.

"They ran down 15th [Street] and then into apartments down there and we found them behind the apartments around a fence. And they ran again and hid behind another apartments and we caught them," he said

Additional deputies and the ASTREA helicopter were called to assist, Stranger said, but all five were in custody in less than five minutes.
