Border Officers Seize More Than $650K In Fentanyl

A driver attempting to enter the country at Calexico had 43 packages of Fentanyl in his gas tank, authorities say.

CALEXICO, CA — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers seized more than a half a million dollars of Fentanyl at the Calexico West Port of Entry, the agency announced Friday.

On June 6, a 28-year-old driver entered the United States, the agency said in a news release. Officers referred the driver and vehicle for further inspection. Screening machines revealed anomalies in the gas tank area of the vehicle, CBP said. A narcotics K-9 screened the vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

Upon inspection, officers found 43 packages of Fentanyl in the gas tank, as well as blue pills that tested positive for Fentanyl. Authorities say the Fentanyl weighed about 54.85 pounds and was worth an estimated $658,200.
