AnΒ investigation into the source ofΒ gunfire during the July chase of an attempted murder suspect has determinedΒ Β three shots were fired by a Sheriff's deputy, and one by a resident of an Imperial BeachΒ home.Β The conclusion is at odds withΒ initial statements by sheriff's department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell, who said law enforcement did not fire any shots during the pursuit that ended in aΒ SWAT standoff withΒ Ramiro Espinoza.Β

The single shotΒ was fired by Elfred "Gunny" Guntrum when Espinoza ran through his yard.Β The San Diego County District Attorney's Office will determine whether further action is taken.
