• Ex-campus aide sentenced for sex crimes involving Mar Vista student (timesofsandiego.com) — An aide who worked for a contractor at Imperial Beach’s Mar Vista High School has been sentenced to six months in a county work-furlough program and probation after pleading guilty to sex crimes involving a 17-year-old student. The judge cited her early guilty plea and remorse but still imposed custody and a 10-year protective order barring contact with the teen.

• South Bay households to receive more air purifiers as sewage crisis persists (kentucky.com) — Imperial Beach households will soon be eligible for more free air purifiers as the county expands its AIRE program to better protect residents from Tijuana River sewage pollution. The Air Pollution Control District approved up to $1 million more to boost units from one to three per home, after surveys showed purifiers easing asthma, odors, and other health impacts in South Bay neighborhoods.

• South Bay gun safety event nets almost 140 firearms (nbcsandiego.com) — Imperial Beach’s sheriff’s substation helped lead a South Bay gun buyback in Chula Vista that collected 138 unwanted firearms and handed out gift cards and free safety locks. Residents can still turn in guns anytime at any sheriff’s station or local law enforcement agency, where weapons will be checked for crimes or theft and otherwise destroyed.
