Water Contact Closure Issued For Imperial Beach Shoreline

Officials have extended a water closure warning to include Imperial Beach.

IMPERIAL BEACH, CA -- County officials on Friday extended a water contact closure to include all of Imperial Beach. The closure was prompted by sewage-contaminated runoff in the Tijuana River has been entering the Tijuana Estuary as a result of recent rainfall, according to the county's Department of Environmental Health.

Officials said water quality samples show the contamination is likely in Imperial Beach.

Signs warning of sewage contaminated water will remain in place until field measurements indicate the ocean water is safe for recreational use.
