CIF-SS Spring Coaches' Polls Through April 11

With just over a month left until playoffs begin, it’s time to start taking these CIF-Southern Section spring sports polls a little more seriously. After all, these aren’t just for our own personal enjoyment, they shape playoff brackets and determine seedings. There’s still plenty of time for teams to rise and fall in the polls, but as every week goes by, they should bear that much more weight.

In the baseball polls, Crescenta Valley made a huge leap in the Division 2 top 10, rising from No. 8 all the way to No. 4. The Falcons boast a 14-2 record, but had a 14-game winning streak snapped by Mater Dei (Chula Vista) on Saturday. The loss came on the back end of a doubleheader that saw Elliott Surrey throw a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory in Game 1. Crescenta Valley is off for the rest of the week until Friday’s epic Pacific League clash with Arcadia. The Apaches were among the “others receiving votes” in Division 2 and are tied with the Falcons atop the league standings.

La Salle also made its debut in the Division 4 baseball poll, checking in at No. 9. The Lancers are 10-3 (5-0 in the Del Rey League), but they face No. 1 Bishop Amat twice this week and also make up the final half inning of a suspended game against Bishop Amat.

In softball, La Cañada moved down one spot in the Division 5 poll, falling from No. 2 to No. 3. San Marino reentered the top 10 at No. 7. The Spartans and Titans finally face each other on the diamond Friday at 7 p.m. at La Cañada.
