Updated: Gardener Lawnmower-Jacked at Gunpoint

UPDATE: Authorities are looking for two suspects. The first suspect, the driver, is described as a bald Latino man about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing between 280-300 pounds, said Capt. Mike Parker of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The man was driving a newer white van with tinted windows, he said. The passenger was described as a Latino man. They spoke Spanish to the gardener, Parker added.

A gardener told Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s deputies that a gun-toting man robbed his lawnmower at a residence in the 400 block of Georgian Road.

The 32-year-old man was working at a home when a van drove by several times, just after 9 a.m. on Feb. 8, according to a report filed with the sheriff’s station.

An unidentified man got out of the driver’s side and, holding a gun, told the gardener to look down at the ground and be quiet. Another man got out of the van’s passenger side and loaded the $1,500 gas-powered Honda mower into the back.

The gardener tried to call 911, but could not get any service on his cell phone, and no one returned home to the Georgian Road property for another two hours, when authorities were notified, the report states.

Although the incident report notes that the victim’s statements were inconsistent, Sgt. Ray Harley said he believes the man was shaken up from the robbery.
