Gas Prices Surge Around the Southland

Gas prices have risen so quickly that, chances are, you were probably fueling up as the attendants changed the sign to show the several-cents increase.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County Thursday recorded its largest daily increase since at least 2010, rising 7.3 cents to $4.186, its highest amount since May 19 of last year.

The sharp increase is the result of a major fire at the Cherry Point refinery near Blaine, WA, that will cause its closure for at least three weeks and reduce supply, Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.

In La Cañada, the at 550 Foothill Blvd. still reigns as cheapest gas in town, at $4.07 for cash. But that price jumps to $4.27 if you use a credit card. The next best deal around town is the , 2384 Foothill Blvd. at $4.19 a gallon, followed by the 76 station at 540 Foothill Blvd. with a per-gallon price of $4.23.
