Updated: The Rose Queen Gets Her Crown (Video)

While most seniors are scrambling to make deadlines on college applications, study for exams and maintain some semblance teen social life, these young ladies are doing all that -- and practicing how to walk without tripping in floor- length gowns.

“We just learn to fit it all into our schedules,’’ Pasadena Tournament of Roses Queen Drew Washington said Thursday during the coronation ceremony at Pasadena Convention Center.

Eyes wide, the 16-year-old senior added, “Sleep is very important.’’

To a cheering crowd and the strobe of dozens of camera flashes,  Washington, of Pasadena, was crowned the 94th rose queen.

Washington and her six princesses – La Cañada resident Morgan Devaud, 18, of , LCF resident Cynthia Louie, 17, of La Salle High School, Altadena resident Kimberly Ostiller, 17, of , Pasadena residents Stephanie Hynes, 18, of Marantha High School and Hanan Worku, 17, of Pasadena High School and Los Angeles resident Sarah Zuno of Benjamin Franklin High School – each took a turn walking the runway in front of hundreds of people gathered for the annual coronation luncheon.

Each member of the 2012 Royal Court refered to each other as “sister,’’ as they are members of the family who serves as ambassadors for the city of Pasadena and gets to take on ride on the royal float during the Rose Parade.

“Really, truly, it’s life changing ,’’ Devaud said.

The teen-age royalty, chosen from some 1,000 Pasadena-area young women, will make participate in roughly 150 media and community functions.

And those smile muscles are just getting warmed up.

“My cheeks are quivering,’’ said princess Cynthia Louie.
