Guitarist Bob Hawkins to Speak to Laguna Beach Service Club

Well-known guitarist Bob Hawkins will speak to the lunch meeting of the Laguna Beach Exchange Club at the Mandarin King Restaurant on Oct. 16.

Bob Hawkins first picked up a guitar at age 16. He is currently an Aliso Viejo resident, but has long history in Laguna Beach. He lived here for more than a decade in the ’70s and then again in the ‘90s.

He often performs in local clubs and restaurants as a member of (most recently) The 133 Band, Nick Hernandez and A.D.D., John Troy, The Snacks with Beth and Steve Wood, the Ken Garcia Band, The John Stewart Band and Shana Morrison.

The Exchange Club meeting will be held at the Mandarin King Restaurant, 1224 North Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 16. To reserve a place at the meeting call Jim Rue at 494-6684. Early reservations are encouraged as the room fills up.

The Laguna Beach Exchange Club is a local affiliate of the 100-year-old National Exchange Club which raises funds for programs to combat child abuse as well as hosting local programs to support youth and education, promote patriotism, volunteerism and a number of other local projects.

While the club is generally known to Laguna Beach residents for its sponsorship of the Memorial Day and Labor Day Pancake Breakfasts in Heisler Park, and involvement in the Patriot’s Day Parade in March, the club is involved in many other aspects of the Laguna Beach community as well.
