Laguna Beach School Board to Decide Tonight When Classes Should Start
August 29 or September 3? The district will hear from parents tonight, Tuesday, during a specially-called session.

It may be just two days, but they're some very controversial ones: August 29 and September 3.
Those are the two dates that the Laguna Beach Unified School Board must decide between at tonight's specially-called meeting.
At issue: when to begin the 2013-14 school year -- before or after Labor Day.

At its Jan. 22 meeting, the board voted to give the Aug. 29 start date a one-year trial. They then proceeded to catch hell from a slew of parents, who contended that their kids would be deprived of precious summer vacation dates, as well as the fact that the city's myriad summer arts festivals would still be going on.
Hence, the special session.
