Laguna Concert Band's Winter Show Set for Sunday

The concert will be a collaboration with students from the Laguna College of Art & Design.

The Laguna Concert Band, a hot ticket with sold out performances the past 2 years, has announced that their formal Winter Concert “Music at an Exhibition”, a collaboration with the Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD), will be performed at the Laguna Playhouse on November 18 at 3pm.

Continuing on Laguna's winning tradition of combining music and art, the 65 member concert band will perform to two of LCAD graduate animation masters projects in an audio/visual premier that is certain to bring smiles and surprises to the audience. Additionally, selected fine art works from LCAD as well as art photography of Laguna's Scott Sporleder be on exhibition throughout the Playhouse lobby as patrons enjoy a glass of wine and the soft music of the talented Gary Gould and Kathie Grasso-Schroeder of the LCB.

Building around the animation works, LCB Music Director Ed Peterson has a lively theme running through the program with music from The Incredibles,   Percy Graingers' well known Country Gardens and Children's March, to serious works such as Mussorgsky's Night On Bald Mountain.

Of special interest with be an encore presentation of composer Jim Christensen “Sketches of Laguna” which premiered at the Concert Band 10th anniversary concert in 2008. Christensen has reworked and expanded his work for this performance to include an arrangement George Russell's “In Laguna”. Set to Sporleder's stunning photos of Laguna Beach and historical images provided by the Laguna Historical Society, Sketches of Laguna will be a “trip down memory lane” for many, paying homage to the incredible beauty of the natural settings of the city.

The exhibition will open at 2 pm and the concert at 3 pm  and tickets for the concert will be $10-$15 and can be purchased through the Laguna Playhouse box office at 949-497-2787.
