New Heisler Park Sculptures to be Dedicated Friday

A new sculpture in Heisler Park will be formally dedicated Friday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m.

The piece, by Laguna Beach artists Scott and Naomi Schoenherr—you might recognize their piece "Little Treasures," which adorns the outside wall of the public restroom on the north side of Ocean Avenue Brewery—is actually made up of several components, including sculptures and sidewalk insets, made from ceramic, steel and rock.

The works were inspired by the poem "Giggle Creek" by Shelley Cooper, which has several Laguna Beach-specific references.

"Our goal of this sculpture garden was to create an environment where the visitors can encounter and explore through the artwork with elements of discovery," says a statement on the couple's website. "Many cohesive elements were used to create a flow through the sculpture garden, connecting each artworks and also the city to the ocean. This project consists of four mosaics, a 6' high by 4.5' wide bronze sculpture with ceramic inlay, large natural stone slab benches, and another bronze sculpture with ceramic inlay.  The art highlights the natural history and environment of Heisler Park."

Following the dedication will be a performance by jazz vocalist Lisa Nemzo, as part of the city's Sunset Serenades series in the park.
