Pictures: Pitbull Pooch in Peril Plucked from Precarious Point Perch
The dog had been running around loose for several hours when it became stranded on a cliff at Contino Point.
Laguna Beach Animal Services officers were literally on the ropes this past Monday afternoon, all in an effort to rescue a stranded pitbull (no, not the really bad rapper Pitbull who rhymes "Kodak" with ... "Kodak") that became stuck on a ledge while trying to climb a cliff at Contino Point, just off Marine Drive.

The dog was running around loose for a couple of hours, according to Laguna Beach Fire Marshall Dan Stefano.

The Laguna Beach Fire Department, with the help of Laguna Beach lifeguards, put into action a process known as a high-angle cliff rescue.
This involved starpping Animal Services Officer John Thompson into a harness and lowering him 20 feet down to the ledge.

Thompson was then able to secure the dog's jaw—just in case the animal wanted to see if Thompson was tender, juicy and delicious—place it in another harness, and lift it out.
The dog was then driven to which the city animal shelter in Laguna Canyon with what Stefano described as a very minor injury.
The dog was picked up by the owner the following day, according to an animal shelter representative.
