1 Dead In 5 Freeway Crash In South OC: CHP

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A person involved in a crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway Saturday died later at the hospital.

The crash was reported at 8:49 a.m. Saturday on the southbound side of the freeway, just south of Junipero Serra Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A white sedan and a silver sedan crashed hard enough to deploy airbags in both cars, a witness told CHP.

The person in the white car appeared to be impaired and a witness reported the person was driving recklessly prior to the crash.

The driver's brother told authorities he received a call from his brother, who sounded "out of it."

It appeared the driver was taken to Mission Regional Hospital, and eventually the CHP labeled the collision as a fatality.
