Going On Vacation? Let Your Dana Point Police Services Officers Know

DANA POINT, CA — Residents of Dana Point were invited to share their locations when going out of town, but it isn't what you might think.

The local Dana Point Police Services division of the Orange County Sheriff's Department is offering a Home Check Request program. "Whether it’s a weekend trip or a longer vacation, we’ll stop by to make sure everything looks secure," they said in a recent social media post.

Suppose you are going on vacation. While you're away, officers will swing by your residence and provide extra patrol attention while you’re out of town.

The Home Check Request program, according to the department, provides extra patrol attention to your residence and street while you’re out of town. The form asks some key questions, including if you will be having any workers at your home in your absence, what cars you expect to be there, if you have a pool, and if people are allowed to swim there, and more.

"We’ll stop by to make sure everything is okay," a spokesperson for the department said. "Remember, security doesn’t take a vacation. Make it part of your summer travel prep."

Residents love the idea, according to responses over social media.

"I didn't know about this benefit," one commenter said. "We just got back from our two-week summer trip! We do have our informal neighborhood watch, but thank you for sharing this!"

It's easy to apply.
