Minor Arrested For Stealing Vehicle, Leading Police On Chase In OC

The minor was arrested after deputies were notified of a theft at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Monday at around 8 p.m., authorities said.

DANA POINT, CA — A minor was arrested on possession of a stolen vehicle charges Monday night in Anaheim, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

The car theft was reported at around 8 p.m. Monday, when Dana Point sheriff's deputies responded to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen from the employee parking lot, authorities said.

The stolen vehicle was found with the help of Flock cameras, authorities said, just before the driver was about to merge onto the Interstate 5 freeway at a "high rate of speed."

"With the assistance of OCSD Air Support and the California Highway Patrol, the stolen vehicle was followed into the City of Anaheim, where the two male occupants tried to flee after driving into a Disneyland parking structure," according to an OCSD news release.

Both suspects were detained by Anaheim police officers and taken into OCSD custody back in Dana Point.

The juvenile driver was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a peace officer.

The driver was taken to juvenile hall, sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Timmins told The Orange County Register, while the passenger was released to a guardian.
