LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A 35-year-old Lake Elsinore man was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor, authorities said Tuesday. In an unrelated case, a 28-year-old Lake Elsinore man who engaged in sex acts with a local girl pleaded guilty Tuesday to unlawful intercourse with a minor and was immediately sentenced to two years felony probation.

In the case of Martin Ancamil, 35, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Lake Elsinore station responded to a call about an alleged sexual assault on a minor in June, the department said.

The Lake Elsinore Investigation Bureau was notified and assumed the case.

In the case of 28-year-old Thomas Joseph Hernandez he admitted the charge of unlawful intercourse with a minor under a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. In exchange for his admission, prosecutors dropped two related felony counts.

During a hearing at the Southwest Justice Center, Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Zimel certified the terms of the plea deal and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense. Along with probation, Zimel ordered Hernandez to spend six months in a sheriff's work release program, during which he'll have to be gainfully employed or enrolled in vocational training or school.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Reese, investigators learned of the alleged illicit encounters between Hernandez and the victim, identified in court documents only as "E.S.," after unnamed parties alerted them in early May 2022.

Reese said sufficient evidence was gathered to justify an arrest warrant, and Hernandez was taken into custody without incident at his residence on Westlynn Drive on May 12 of that year.

The circumstances behind the offenses, including how Hernandez and the victim met, were not disclosed.

The defendant had no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
