15, 91 Freeways Scheduled To Close Sunday In Corona: Travel Advisory

CORONA, CA — The Riverside County Transportation Commission planning full closures Sunday of two critical freeway systems through the region.

All lanes of eastbound state Route 91 and southbound Interstate 15 in Corona will be shut down from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday, October 22, so crews can continue construction on two freeway projects: the 71/91 Interchange and the 15/91 Express Lanes Connector.

Details of the SR-91 closure include:

• All eastbound lanes, from Green River Road to Serfas Club Drive, will close from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.
• All eastbound 91 Express Lane will be closed in Riverside and Orange counties from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.
• All westbound 91 Express Lanes in Riverside County will close from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.
• The eastbound onramp at Green River Road will close from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.

"Motorists traveling eastbound on the 91 are encouraged to avoid the area by using northbound 57 to eastbound 60 to southbound 71 as routes to get around the closure," according to the RCTC. "Drivers who need to reach Green River Road or choose to use the local detour should plan for heavy delays. Travelers may use the eastbound 91 exit at Green River Road to Palisades Drive or Serfas Club Drive to re-enter the eastbound 91. Fire, police, and ambulance will have access for emergency response."

Weeknight eastbound 91 full closures will continue Monday to Wednesday nights through November 21, 2023.

Additionally, a full southbound I-15 closure is needed to allow crews to install overhead signage over the freeway near Hidden Valley Parkway. Southbound I-15 will be closed from Hidden Valley Parkway to the 91 on Sunday starting at midnight. The freeway will reopen at 7 a.m., according to the RCTC.

Motorists can use Hidden Valley Parkway to Main Street to access westbound and eastbound 91, and southbound 15, the agency said.

Construction on the 15/91 Express Lanes Connector project started in 2021 and could open by the end of the year, according to the RCTC.

Motorists traveling eastbound on SR-91 and southbound on I-15 should plan extra time to reach local destinations and businesses.

Construction activity is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
