CORONA, CA — A convicted sex offender was charged with more sex crimes this week following his arrest over the weekend in two alleged attacks in Corona.

Court records show Miguel Angel Vazquez, 29, of Corona was charged Tuesday with two counts of felony sexual battery, two counts of sexual penetration causing bodily injury and one count each of robbery and witness intimidation. He also faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of targeting multiple victims, as well as probation violations.

An investigation into Vazquez began around 11:50 a.m. Sunday when Corona police were called to Mountain Gate Park at 3100 S. Main Street regarding a reported sexual battery and robbery.

Officers learned the suspect approached the victim, sexually battered her, and stole her cell phone, according to the Corona Police Department.

Based on the suspect’s description and actions, it was believed he was possibly the same offender from another sexual battery that occurred around 3:20 p.m. Jan. 26 in the 1100 block of Magnolia Avenue, police said.

A search was conducted and officers located a suspect — later identified as Vazquez — in the area of Ford and Filbert streets in Corona. Investigators linked Vazquez to the two attacks based on evidence that police said included his car (see below) and his home in the 900 block of Rimpau Avenue.

Vazquez has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for sexual battery, domestic violence, statutory rape, stalking, and criminal threats. He has served multiple terms in state prison for his crimes, the last being a three-year sentence in 2020 for stalking, criminal threats, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, according to police.

Vazquez was most recently sentenced to one year of summary probation after being convicted of sexual battery in 2023, police said.

Vazquez was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday. His bail was set at $500,000, court records show.
