21-Year-Old Riverside County Woman Dies Following Gunshot Wound

A man was booked on suspicion of manslaughter in the case, but he was released from custody after posting $80,000 bail, jail records show.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 21-year-old Riverside County woman died Saturday after being shot in the unincorporated Woodcrest area near Riverside, and a preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was unintentional.

Sheriff's deputies responded at 11:51 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 18000 block of Gentian Avenue, where they found Isabella Ruiz of Riverside suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Paramedics took Ruiz to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for Ruiz's family by a friend, the young woman had "a work ethic like no one I have ever seen. She was so driven in life and wanted to succeed at anything she put her mind to and she did. Aside from work, she became my best friend. Isabella is a light in so many people's life."

Deputies arrested 21-year-old Brady Matthew Castillo on suspicion of manslaughter in Ruiz's death but he was released from custody Saturday on $80,000 bail.

As of Monday morning, no formal charges had been filed against Castillo. He has no criminal history in Riverside County, according to court records.
