Accused Elsinore Road Rager Arrested

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A man suspected of breaking a motorist's window during an act of road rage in Lake Elsinore was free Tuesday on a $50,000 bond.

Keith Bryant Lewis, 45, of Lakeland Village was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of throwing a dangerous object into a vehicle and knowingly driving on a suspended license.

Lewis posted bail overnight and was released.

According to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Steve Fredericks, a woman driving eastbound on state Route 74 in Lake Elsinore about 8 a.m. Saturday noticed a red sedan racing in front of her, crossing into opposing traffic to get around other cars, prompting her to start recording the driver on her mobile phone.

Fredericks alleged that as the driver plowed ahead, a man at the wheel of a black Toyota Corolla -- later identified as Lewis -- initiated a cat- and-mouse contest with the reckless motorist, going around him and hitting his brakes, which led the other driver to do the same.

When the unnamed victim exited the 74 at Collier Avenue and pulled into a turn lane to continue along Central Avenue, Lewis pulled alongside her, "rolled down his passenger side window, uttered a profanity (and) then threw an unknown metal object at the woman's closed driver's side window," the sergeant alleged.

He said the glass busted on impact, but the victim was not hit by shards, thanks to the safety design of the window.

Lewis sped away from the scene, but because the woman continued to record during the attack, she captured his face and vehicle license plate, helping sheriff's investigators identify him as the alleged assailant, according to Fredericks.

He was taken into custody without incident at his residence on Marian Avenue.

According to court records, Lewis has an unresolved misdemeanor case pending for allegedly driving on a suspended license.
