Blaze Blackens Field in Perris

Reports from the scene indicated that flames were burning into heavy vegetation, but crews quickly gained the upper hand.

PERRIS, CA — A brush fire erupted Monday in an open field in Perris, scorching about an acre before crews got it partially contained.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 3:35 p.m. near the intersection of Barbara Drive and San Jacinto Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Reports from the scene indicated that flames were burning into heavy vegetation, but winds were light in the area, enabling crews to stop the forward rate of spread within 30 minutes.

No homes or other structures were threatened, and the fire was expected to be fully contained by 5 p.m.

The cause was under investigation.
