Coroner IDs Menifee Man Killed While Walking On I-215 Freeway
The incident occurred on Southbound I-215 earlier this week.

MENIFEE, CA — The Riverside County Sheriff- Coroner's Bureau identified a 45-year-old pedestrian killed as he walked in traffic on Interstate 215 in Menifee this week.
Geoff Bishop, a Menifee resident, died where he was struck on the southbound I-215, about a quarter mile south of McCall Boulevard's freeway offramp, the coroner reported after next of kin was notified.
Bishop was struck at at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Seel said.

For unknown reasons, Bishop walked onto the freeway and headed into the flow of traffic in the fast lane.
"Moments later, a 41-year-old motorist at the wheel of a 2014 Mercedes E350 going southbound at 65 mph encountered the victim and was unable to brake or swerve in time to avoid him," Seel said.

The left front of the Mercedes struck Bishop, who was propelled into the No. 1 lane, according to the report.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location less than 10 minutes later where Bishop had perished at the scene.
The motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, was not injured. He was identified only as a Menifee resident and questioned by CHP officers, but was not arrested.
"It is unknown at this time if (Bishop) was intoxicated," Seel said.
An autopsy was pending as of this report.
